Absence Management addresses the rising costs associated with an employee's injury or illness. It is one of the most effective tools to assist with an early return to work. The value of an employee is greatly reduced through lost experience, even following a short period of disability.
Absence is addressed through Managed Rehabilitation measures. Our multi-disciplinary approach is aimed at intervention where required. The goal is greater communication between the employee, health care providers, and employer. The results are significant cost savings and early return to work, leading to reduced disruption of operations. Beyond the Workers' Compensation and insurance premiums that can be saved, are the additional tangible costs (i.e.: hiring and training replacement workers, errors due to inexperience, property and equipment damages, etc.), that need to be considered.
Chronic conditions can be avoided through early intervention of an acute illness or injury. Early intervention also allows many injuries and illnesses to be managed from the worksite, turning potential time loss into no time loss or greatly reducing the period of disability.
A consultant from BCL will meet with injured or ill employees to ensure that their medical treatment plan is appropriate. Further, our consultants will address with the Physician any treatment or testing that is being considered. Ensuring that an expedient and cost effective rehabilitation plan is being pursued is critical. This may involve our network of physicians, specialists, or other health care professionals. When applicable, our consultants will work with each stakeholder to ensure cooperation and support from all parties critical to the case management.
When appropriate, the consultant will commence the return to work plan. This phase also requires support from all parties. The plan is agreed upon and is then documented and contracted. Our consultant will then begin the monitoring phase, updating the contract (plan), when necessary. This requires ongoing communication with your employees, supervisors, and health care providers. When the return to work plan is complete we will reduce or suspend active follow up.
BCL will provide your staff with training regarding their role in achieving successful Absence Management. Employees will feel well supported and will know that their absence matters. Morale will be positively affected and your organization will benefit from substantially reduced costs in the many areas noted above!
